Damiyah Smith, of Commerce Middle School, had a perfect day at the Wyandotte Jr High POWER MEET today. Oklahoma School Sports currently does not recognize a GIRLS DIVISION until girls enter into their Sophomore year— a change that came about for this 2019 season, so Smith, a 32X WORLD CHAMPION in the sports of POWERLIFTING, Olympic Weightlifting and Combine Athletics, will defend her 2018 OKLAHOMA STATE title in the 7th GRADE BOYS DIV.
Smith, the only female on the Jr High team, competed in the 105# weight class, and maxed with a 185# SQUAT, a 115# Bench Press and a 245# DEADLIFT. Smith states, “I’m looking forward to defending my title and also to getting more girls interested in the sport. POWERLIFTING makes us better at more than just lifting weights so I’m hoping more of my friends will join me soon.” Smith accredits her strength to training 5 days a week at the House of Steel Gym in Commerce, Ok, and to her diet. Smith launched her SPORTS NUTRITION line in late January 2019 and encourages athletes of all backgrounds to take full advantage of the nutritional guidance listed on her site at www.teampowerhouseathletics.com. Smith can be followed on INSTAGRAM @powerhouseprincessok.
